BIRMINGHAM, Ala – Kate DeWitt Darden has joined Baptist Health System (BHS) as vice president for marketing and communications, according to Keith Parrott, BHS executive vice president and chief operating officer.
“In this role, she will oversee branding and marketing efforts for BHS and our four hospitals – Princeton, Shelby, Walker and Citizens Baptist Medical Centers, and Baptist Health Centers, a network of world-class primary care clinics. Her unique skill set and experience will be very valuable to BHS as she leads our marketing and branding initiatives,” said Parrott.
Darden brings with her 20 years of experience in strategic marketing and branding, most recently as a partner with Darden Tatum, a Birmingham-based branding and marketing firm. Prior to her tenure with Darden Tatum, she worked with Southern Progress Corporation, a division of Time, Inc. During that time, Darden held several positions, ultimately serving as group marketing director of the Healthy Living Group, which included the nationally successful brands Cooking Light and Health.
“There is a powerful story to tell behind this health system that so directly and positively impacts lives in our communities. The values-driven Baptist team seizes every new industry change as an opportunity to innovate and deliver the best patient experience possible,” said Darden.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Darden holds leadership roles in several community organizations, including the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama, MOMENTUM Women’s Leadership Program and Jones Valley Teaching Farm. She also serves as a table captain for the YWCA’s annual Purse and Passion luncheon.
A native of Oklahoma City, Darden graduated from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala. She is also a graduate of the seventh class of MOMENTUM, the premier women’s leadership organization in the state.
