Scripture: “I am the resurrection and the life…” – John 11:25
The Easter Season is upon us! Really, it never leaves us! I am reminded of the Easter story every day. I am constantly reminded of God’s promises. Over the years, I’ve become more and more aware of God’s presence in my life and those around me.
Do you remember one of the stories of Jesus’ appearance to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus? They were talking to each other about all that had happened “concerning Jesus the Nazarene.” As they were talking, Jesus approached them, but they didn’t recognize Him. They were surprised when He asked them what they were discussing so intently. “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who doesn’t know the things that have happened there in these days?” they asked. Jesus said to them, “What things?” Sadly, and still not recognizing Jesus, they began to tell Him of the condemnation, crucifixion, death and the resurrection appearance to the women at the tomb!
As they approached the village where they were going, Jesus told them that He had plans to go farther. They urged Him, “Stay with us, because it is getting toward evening and the day is almost done.” Jesus accepted their offer and when the meal was prepared, He took the bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. At that moment, they recognized that it was Jesus! When Jesus left them, they began to say to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us while He was speaking with us on the road, while He was explaining the scriptures to us?”
How many times a day, do we miss “seeing and recognizing Jesus among us?” Hopefully, God will grant us the eyes to see and the ears to hear how God’s spirit is gently speaking to our hearts and minds; revealing the mysteries of His love and kindness. For the disciples, it took the “breaking and blessing of the bread” for them to recognize Jesus. What will it take for us to recognize Him today?
Alleluia! Christ is Risen!!!
