God told Abram: "Leave your country, your family, and your father's home for a land that I will show you. I'll make you a great nation and bless you. I'll make you famous; you'll be a blessing. I'll bless those who bless you; those who curse you I'll curse. All the families of the Earth will be blessed through you."
2 Corinthians 5:7
For we walk by faith, not by sight
n the Genesis passage above, God tells Abram to leave his land and family. Sometimes the things God has for me to do look untimely to others. When I went to seminary, I had to travel one-and-one-half hours each way. I had a family. My husband was supportive of me continuing my education. The rest of the family was apprehensive of me leaving home to do anything. I can imagine Abram was nervous about leaving his home. I was nervous about going to school, leaving home every day. I had faith in God, knowing God knows what is best for me.
Walking by faith and not by sight requires you to leave your comfort zone. To be used by God, you will have to leave being comfortable. Walking into new territory is uncomfortable. Not knowing where you are going is terrifying. As you transition into the uncomfortable space, God will clear the way as you journey.
The words of the song Walk by Faith by Jeremy Camp illustrate what I am trying to convey:
Would I believe you when you would say/ Your hand will guide my every way / Will I receive the words You say/ Every moment of every day/ Help me to win my endless fears/ You've been so faithful for all my years/ With one breath You make me new/ Your grace covers all I do
[chorus] Well I will walk by faith / Even when I cannot see / Well because this broken road / Prepares Your will for me / Well I'm broken- but I still see Your face / Well You've spoken- pouring Your words of grace.
Lord, help me to walk where You lead and to journey where You send. By faith, I trust You wherever You send me. HELP in my times of unbelief when I am distracted by things around me. Amen.
